Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 Diverts After Losing an Emergency Exit Door

An Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 diverted to Portland (PDX) on Friday after losing its mid-aft emergency exit, a window, and an unoccupied seat shortly after take off. These events led to a rapid decompression, prompting the crew to make an emergency landing. 

The aircraft, registered as N704AL, was operating flight AS1282 from Portland to Ontario (ONT) with 170 passengers on board. After departing runway 28L at 17:07, the aircraft reached 16,000 feet in 7 minutes, before rapidly descending and decreasing speed. At 10,000 feet, the aircraft turned back towards the airport and lined up for approach at 17:21. Six minutes later, the plane landed safely on runway 28L.

The incident is currently being investigated.
