An Alaska Airlines E175 (N660QX) was forced to divert when an off-duty pilot sitting in the cockpit jump seat attempted to shut off the aircraft’s engines. The flight, operated by Horizon Air, diverted to Portland International Airport (PDX). Horizon Air flight AS2059 was a regularly scheduled flight between Seattle Paine Field International Airport (PAE) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Less than an hour into the flight, the Embraer E175, started its diversion to PDX. The flight crew never squawked 7700, the general code for an onboard emergency. After a quick struggle, the suspect, Joseph Emerson (44), was subdued by the flight crew and moved to the back of the plane where he stayed calm for the rest of the flight.
