Korean Air A330 Overruns Runway in Cebu

October 23rd, 2022

On the evening of October 23rd, a Korean Air A330-300 registered HL7525, operating flight KE631 from Seoul, South Korea, overshot the runway on its third landing attempt at Mactan-Cebu international airport. Luckily, none of the 162 passengers or 11 crew members were injured. The aircraft attempted to land twice, before overrunning the runway on the third attempt. The front section of the aircraft’s belly was sheared off and it’s nose was heavily damaged.

A similar incident happened in Manila, 1981, when a Korean Air 747 overshot the runway during an aborted take off, crashing through the airport perimeter fence. As a result, the aircraft’s nose held up traffic on the service road of South Luzon Expressway. 40 of the 352 occupants were injured.
